We've come a long way. But our progress should not conceal the enormous inequality that remains. We need new solutions. Innovative solutions. Solutions led by new leaders and new organizations.

That's why Uplifting Change exists.

We launched our efforts in the fall of 2009 with a series of salons and conversations. then in February 2010, Liberty Hill hosted a transformative summit that convened 150 African-American leaders including a rich cross-section of African-American L.A.

The goal of the summit was simple: To inspire local African-American leaders to harness their power.

The result was strong: Individuals who had never considered themselves philanthropists developed their first strategic giving plans. Other participants organized "giving circles." Pastors led conversations about how to be more strategic with their resources to address the problems in our communities.

In 2011, we will host a second summit to build on our initial success. The 2011 Summit will deepen our focus on implementing practical philanthropic strategies.
