May Day Protest Ramps Up Under New Administration

by Maddie Albanesius on April 17, 2017

Since November folks across the country have been wondering what they can do to voice their disapproval of the current administration and its policies. It’s been a daily battle to make our voices heard and advocate for a fairer and more just society. Folks are getting organized.  Protests and marches with an underlying theme of resistance, are ramping up in response to the current administration.

On Monday, May 1, Angelenos will come together for a march in downtown L.A. to show solidarity for marginalized groups across the country. People are marching because they believe the current administration is using its power to negatively affect Muslims, immigrants, women, people of color and the LGBTQ community. And folks are taking notice. LA Weekly, the Daily News and on the Women’s March website are spreading the word. More information can be found at

Many Liberty Hill grantees will be participating in the march, including CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights), CLEAN Carwash Campaign, Community Coalition, Esperanza Community Housing Corporation, KIWA (Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance), LA Voice, LAANE (Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy), Pilipino Workers Center of Southern California, Restaurant Opportunities Center of Los Angeles, SAJE (Strategic Actions for a Just Economy), SCOPE (Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education) and Warehouse Workers Resource Center.
