Program Assistant, Wally Marks Leadership Institute

"Growing up as a child of refugees and moving through life as a woman of color, I’ve seen the ways in which inequity has colored both my life and the lives of those around me. I am committed to using my experience and the privileges I’ve been afforded to lift up the voices that need to be heard."

Cheyda most recently served as an intern at Shanti Orange County, where she supported a clientele of people living with HIV/AIDs and created community outreach materials promoting sexual well-being. She was also a Discussion Leader Coordinator for UC Irvine’s Undecided/Undeclared Advising Program, where she mentored first-generation students and taught topics like public speaking, lesson planning, and conflict resolution. In this role, she planned and facilitated weekly training seminars for over 50 undergraduate students. Cheyda is a recent graduate of UC Irvine, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health Policy and completed minors in Film & Media Studies and Gender & Sexuality Studies.
