California Funders for Boys and Men of Color Southern California: Our Kids, Our Future, Fund

Strategy to Win

The SoCal Regional Action Committee (RAC) of California Funders for Boys and Men of Color had a vision: (1) support existing, strong community leadership and coalitions led by and building power with those most impacted by systemic oppression to advance policy (2) and system change campaigns that transforms Los Angeles County’s youth justice system policy, practice and funding, and improves the well-being of youth of color. As co-chair of this committee, the Liberty Hill Foundation funded 13 organizations to create a plan to achieve that vision. This team of advocates and community organizers generated, collected, and synthesized ideas for action, which resulted in a comprehensive blueprint for systems change—Youth Justice and Youth Development in Los Angeles County: A Three Year Blueprint for Systems Reform. Below is a snapshot of what we have accomplished so far, and where we are headed

Pooled Fund: Our Kids, Our Future

Since the inception of the CFBMOC So Cal RAC and the creation of the Our Kids, Our Future Fund, Liberty Hill has worked to fuel grassroots, social justice organizations that are building progressive power and working to end youth incarceration as we know it in Los Angeles County. To date, the fund has awarded approximately $2.6 million in grants to 13 organizations, through a participatory grant-making process and plans to award additional grant dollars in the coming year. The Our Kids, Our Future Fund also provided organizational capacity building, leadership development and support, convening, and direct advocacy to support alliance-building work. In partnership with the Los Angeles County Center for Strategic Partnerships, we have also aligned approximately $3 million from funders and individual donors to support the strategic priorities addressed by the Blueprint.
