Jared Rivera

Jared Rivera was born in the Californian Central Valley before moving with his family to Southern California's Inland Empire at the age of five.  He became involved with social justice through his high school involvement with the Chicano student organization, MEChA. He continued his involvement in college at UC Berkeley, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Social Welfare in 2000, after which he began organizing with the California Nurses Association doing drives and contract negotiations throughout Southern California. Jared served as executive director of LA Voice from 2003 to 2010, working to expand the construction of affordable housing, while also educating current tenants about their rights. He is currently political coordinator for SEIU California.
