The November election was a reminder to Liberty Hill and its committed donor-activists that justice and equality are values we can never take for granted. The fight for immigrant rights is one of many we stand ready to take on. Today’s decision to terminate the DACA program is a heartbreaking blow to many young immigrants whose only aspiration is to achieve the American Dream through hard work and determination. Our city is a testament to the vitality and economic vibrancy that immigrants contribute, and we are stronger because of our immigrant communities.
One of the most compelling aspects of my job is my work on Liberty Hill's Cal Dream Committee, which administers the Cal Dream Scholarship Fund.
On July 12, Ju Hong, a student at the University of California at Berkeley and a recipient of a Cal Dream scholarship from Liberty Hill, became the first undocumented Asian American student to voluntarily submit to arrest in a civil disobedience action in California.
“Undocumented and unafraid” is their slogan, and student activists will be out in force on the streets at downtown L.A.’s Immigration Reform March today.
