Join Liberty Hill in the Fight for Social Justice!

Celebrating Black History Month

We support the evolution of a new movement for racial justice that seeks to dismantle systemic racism and traditional systems of harm in America.

Liberty Hill is committed to the pursuit of social justice.

Black-led organizing is a powerful driver of social change in Los Angeles. Since its founding, Liberty Hill Foundation has invested in Black-led organizing to build power in communities most impacted by systemic oppression to achieve equity and justice. The people most impacted by injustice must be the ones leading the fight for justice and we take our lead from organizers and activists driving the movements for change.

Racial justice is embedded in the core principles of our work.

Liberty Hill is proud to provide grants, training, and other support to our partners at Black-led organizations winning battles every day on housing and homelessness, jobs and wages, poverty, criminal and juvenile justice, environmental justice, education, health care, policing, LGBTQ justice, and much more.

As a multi-racial, multi-ethnic institution, our competitive grantmaking program prioritizes Black-led organizations and organizations led by people of color explicitly committed to fighting structural racism.

Our Community Funding Board, which shapes our grantmaking decisions, has a critical mass of strong Black leaders.

Our Wally Marks Leadership Institute is designed by and for those most impacted by systemic oppression, including many Black organizers, trainers, and coaches.

Giving Black in Los Angeles

The Black community has a long tradition of philanthropic giving through various organizations, churches, bridge clubs, and fraternal organizations. Liberty Hill supports the philanthropic power of the Black community and leverages resources to help solve problems. The fight for justice and equity is going to take all of us working together to support the movement for change. For more than four decades, Liberty Hill has been your dedicated partner in this fight, building people power and supporting the leadership of those closest to pain and injustice.

Liberty Hill brings together individual donors and foundation funders to invest in racial justice work through educational events, pooled funds and giving circles. Liberty Hill's three Black-led Giving Circles, BLACC Fund, Susan's Circle, and Angelenos for L.A. help provide training and funding to grassroots leaders addressing racial justice in the criminal justice system, voting, wages, access to jobs and housing, and LGBTQ equality work.
