For more than 40 years, Liberty Hill has invested in activism in L.A. Our investments help build the power of grassroots community organizing groups to win significant social change. Community organizing builds power and protects our communities from systemic oppression. Organizing brought us the Movement for Black Lives and sustained multiracial protests for justice. Organizing secured the new presidency.

Amidst a raging pandemic, economic inequities, police brutality, white supremacy, and political insurrection, we are continuing our commitment to building power in communities most impacted by systemic oppression by announcing the opening of our competitive grantmaking programs Fund for Change and Liberty Vote!

The Fund for Change and Liberty Vote! programs provide general operating support grants up to $50,000 for community and electoral organizing in Los Angeles County.

Both programs aim to support social justice organizations on the frontlines of protecting democracy and building progressive power in communities most impacted by systemic oppression.

The Fund for Change funds 501(c)(3) organizations, while Liberty Vote! funds 501(c)(4) organizations. Organizations that are funded through these programs can also receive funds from other Liberty Hill programs, including Liberty Hill capacity building programs through our Wally Marks Leadership Institute.

While these are legacy programs for Liberty Hill, we underwent a refresh in 2020— based on community input—to enhance our partnership and impact. Thanks to feedback from long-time grantees, other grassroots organizations, and Community Funding Board members, we have made commitments to changing grantmaking practices, network building, and capacity building.
