Free the 50

Stand with the 40 to 50 girls and gender-expansive youth currently incarcerated in Los Angeles County and call for a different future — one rooted in safety, healing, and community, not cages.

Hill

Los Angeles County is still incarcerating girls and gender-expansive youth in facilities with a documented history of abuse, neglect, and systemic harm. That is unacceptable.

We know a different future is possible. We have seen what happens when young people are supported instead of punished, trusted instead of locked up, and surrounded by real care: healing circles, mentorship, housing, leadership development, paid opportunities, and community.

This is not theoretical. It is already working.

At Liberty Hill, we believe young people deserve safety, dignity, and the chance to thrive. We also believe public systems should be held accountable when they fail. Free the 50 is about real public safety. We know this is achieved when we invest in our young people instead of exposing them to more harm and we turn to community-led solutions that prioritize healing, wellness, and put youth’s needs at the center.

For too long, girls and gender-expansive youth — especially Black and Brown young people — have been made invisible in systems that were supposed to protect them. Free the 50 is a call to end that invisibility, confront the harm happening right now, and fight for solutions that[LS1] [RC2] actually keep young people safe.
