Aire Libre: A Powerful Afternoon of Art, Community, & Environmental Justice

April 6, 2026

This month, the Liberty Hill community came together with East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice and artist Erin Cooney to host Aire Libre—an unforgettable gathering that lifted up movement stories through art, performance, and collective imagination.

Held at the historic Art Theatre of Long Beach, the event brought together community members, organizers, artists, and allies for an immersive celebration of movement, resilience, and creative resistance.

Guests were treated to a powerful short film screening, stirring live performances, and a dynamic panel discussion exploring the intersections of art, environmental justice, and the shared future we are building across Los Angeles. The afternoon reminded us that art is not just an expression. Art is a tool for healing, resistance, and movement building.

Aire Libre featured a deeply collaborative lineup, including artist Erin Cooney, East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice, CONTRA‑TIEMPO’s renowned dance ensemble, poet Rocio Carlos, and vocalists Carmina Escobar and Joung‑A Monica Yum. Through visual storytelling, movement, and sound, their work illuminated the lived experiences of frontline communities and the collective power required to fight for clean air, environmental health, and justice.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special gathering. Your energy, presence, and commitment help fuel the movement for a healthier, more just Los Angeles. We look forward to continuing this journey with you and to uplifting the artists, organizers, and community voices who make this work possible.

Stay tuned for more events and opportunities to engage with Liberty Hill as we continue building a future rooted in justice, creativity, and community power.
