Earlier this month, Liberty Hill hosted its first Youth Development Incubation Academy Convening, a full day gathering for newly selected grantees to connect, build community, and set expectations for their year-long journey within the new program.

The Youth Development Incubation Academy is an initiative funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Youth Development that will invest in the development, empowerment, and growth of rising activists and emerging community-based organizations dedicated to youth justice and youth development.

Twenty-one incredible organizations representing diverse communities across the county gathered for the first time in-person for the inaugural convening. The day’s program, facilitated by Liberty Hill and Cities & People, focused on relationship building, and exploring the specialized capacity-building and peer-learning trainings designed for the program.

“Programs like the Youth Development Incubation Academy are important because it gives us young CBOs, our youth, and our people the opportunity to really learn and expand our knowledge alongside generational wisdom,” shared program participant, Alba Danely, Founder & President of Our Generation Cares. “The needs that we have are being met by not just funding but by the advice and mentorship.”

Through this innovative program, participants will engage in collective movement-building work that invests in LA’s youth and provides systems of care as alternatives to systems of punishment. The network of frontline organizations will receive infrastructure training to develop the skills necessary to create a positive and lasting impact in their local communities.

Liberty Hill is thrilled to be a proud partner in this transformative program that supports those often-overlooked organizations leading the way in youth justice.
