50 Years of People Power. The Next 50 Start Now.
Help Seed What Comes Next.
For five decades, Liberty Hill Foundation has backed the grassroots leaders, organizers, and coalitions building a more just Los Angeles.
At every major inflection point in L.A. since our founding, Liberty Hill has believed in the power of communities to shape their own future. We have funded bold ideas before they were widely understood. We have supported emerging leaders who are now pillars of L.A.’s social justice movements. And we have helped build the coalitions that turn community vision into lasting change.
Now, as we celebrate 50 years of solidarity and progress, we are looking ahead.
Los Angeles is entering a decisive period.
Communities are confronting escalating attacks on immigrants, growing housing instability, threats to public resources, climate emergencies, and efforts to reverse hard-won progress. The infrastructure that movements spent decades building is being tested at precisely the moment it is needed most.
This is a moment for philanthropy to do more than respond. It is a moment to invest in the infrastructure that makes long-term change possible.
We invite foundation partners to make a special 50th anniversary investment in Liberty Hill and help seed the next 50 years of grassroots power in Los Angeles.
Why Long-term Vision Matters Now
The movements that changed Los Angeles did not emerge by accident.
They grew because organizers had the trust, resources, relationships, and staying power to build across issues, communities, and generations. They grew because philanthropy invested not only in individual campaigns, but in the people, organizations, coalitions, and strategies that make durable change possible.
Movement infrastructure is needed more than ever - not only to help movements endure, coordinate, adapt, protect their leaders, and translate shared vision into strategy, but also to defend communities in moments of crisis and expand what democratic possibility can look like over time.
Grassroots organizations are being asked to respond to urgent community needs while also building long-term power. We can do both. In fact, the future we want to see in 50 years depends on what we do today.
Support gives these leaders the room to act with urgency, adapt to changing conditions, and continue building toward a future rooted in justice, dignity, and self-determination.

Why Liberty Hill
Liberty Hill does not simply fund individual organizations. We help build the connective tissue that allows an entire movement ecosystem to act with greater coordination, scale, and influence.
Our model is rooted in trust, relationships, and proximity to the people closest to the challenges facing Los Angeles.
We know that lasting change begins with organized communities, and we know that grassroots leaders need long-term, flexible resources to build power and win. Over the last 50 years, Liberty Hill has helped make possible a Los Angeles where communities are organizing to replace youth jails with youth development, shut down toxic neighborhood oil drilling, protect tenants from displacement, defend immigrant communities, and build a more inclusive democracy. These victories are not isolated wins. They are the result of sustained investment in grassroots organizing and movement infrastructure.
Why Los Angeles
Los Angeles is more than a local story. It is a national signal.
The challenges facing our region are the same challenges shaping the country: attacks on immigrant communities, widening inequality, housing instability, climate injustice, and threats to multiracial democracy.
For decades, Los Angeles has been a proving ground for ideas, policies, and movements that ripple across California and the nation. When grassroots leaders build power here, the impact reaches far beyond our region.
An investment in Liberty Hill is an investment in a tested movement ecosystem with lessons, strategies, and possibilities that can help shape the future of justice work nationally.
