As part of Liberty Hill's 50th Anniversary celebration, the 2026 Upton Sinclair Dinner brought together generations of community partners, donor activists, grantees, and philanthropic leaders to reflect on the impact we've made together and the work still ahead.
Our new short film, In Their Own Words: Liberty Hill's Impact, captures these reflections firsthand. Through powerful insights from community leaders and partners, the film highlights how Liberty Hill’s commitment to community-led solutions have transformed lives, neighborhoods, and public policy throughout Los Angeles. From housing justice and environmental equity to immigrant rights and civic engagement, the voices featured in the film demonstrate what is possible when communities have the resources and power to shape their own futures.
Featuring reflections from leaders including Chet Hewitt (CEO, Sierra Health Foundation), Manuel Pastor (Director, USC Dornsife Equity Research Institute), mark! Lopez (East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice), Sheila Kuehl (Former Chair, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors), Wendy Chang (Former Liberty Hill Board Chair), Andre Donde (Executive Director, LiBRE), and Angelica Salas (Executive Director, CHIRLA), the film celebrates the partnerships, investments, and community leadership that have helped drive meaningful change across Los Angeles for five decades.
