2020 Upton Sinclair Dinner Canceled

April 10, 2020

The Liberty Hill Community, like the rest of the country and the world, is concerned and saddened by the impact the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continues to have on our neighbors and communities.

As you know, Governor Newsom has issued restrictions on major events and large gatherings throughout the state, and Mayor Garcetti recently outlined recommendations for the closure of certain public and communal spaces across Los Angeles.

In light of these developments we have made the difficult, but necessary, decision to cancel the 2020 Upton Sinclair Awards Dinner, scheduled for April 29, 2020.

Our annual dinner is always a night to remember as we bring together activists, donors and organizers to celebrate our continued march toward progress.

As difficult as this decision may be, we feel that as a community, we must do our part to help flatten the curve of the virus, slow the spread of infection, and reduce the overall burden on our healthcare system.

If you were planning to buy a ticket or table, we encourage you to make your donation to support the movement to build a more just Los Angeles. All contributions to the dinner will now be featured in a digital program book, which we plan to release online in the near future.

If you already purchased a ticket, table or sponsorship, we hope you will allow us to make this a fully tax-deductible donation that will help us continue our work. You can email sglover@libertyhill.org to obtain a new receipt or to request additional information.

Lastly, we are very grateful to our incredible honorees—The Honorable Eric H. Holder, Julie Hermelin, and Harold and Stephanie Nemeth Bronson—who were so gracious and understanding as we navigated this tough decision.

In lieu of getting to see them on stage next month, we will be releasing very special videos in the near future featuring our honorees, grantees, and other speakers to honor their work in the progressive movement for change.

Stay tuned and take good care of yourselves and loved ones.

In Solidarity,

The Liberty Hill Team
