#JusticeForJacobBlake

The heartbreaking and horrifying shooting of Jacob Blake—seven times in the back, at point-blank range, in front of his children—leaves us stunned. We are saddened, and we are angry, but unfortunately we are not surprised. We have seen this too many times before. We are likewise appalled by the murder of two protesters demanding justice for Jacob Blake who, on the subsequent night, were shot by a far-right vigilante armed with an semi-automatic rifle.

We demand full accountability for the officer who nearly killed Jacob Blake. We demand accountability not only for the vigilante who murdered the protesters, but for the police officers who looked the other way. We seek the dismantling of the systems that allow these brutal and often deadly attacks on Black people to continue. We are thinking of Jacob Blake as we stand—and work—in solidarity with all who fight for Black lives.

Here are three steps that you can take right now to get involved:

  • Give directly to organizations that are Black-led and committed to Black lives.
  • Listen to Black-led organizations for greater understanding of systemic issues and the complex solutions they propose. Visit their websites, receive their newsletters, and follow them on social media.
  • Contact us about joining one of our collaborative grantmaking funds or making a one-time donation to support Black-led organizing and the activists on the frontlines.
