The Young Women’s Freedom Center celebrates its 30-year anniversary this month marking a major milestone in their work to inspire and empower systems-impacted women, girls, and trans people of all genders.

Since 1993, the organization has worked to create a positive change in the lives and communities of young women and gender-expansive youth who have been involved in the juvenile justice system, criminal justice system, and/or the underground street economy.

Young Women’s Freedom Center has provided support, mentorship, training, employment, and advocacy to young women and trans youth of all genders in California who have grown up in poverty, experienced the juvenile legal and foster care systems, have had to survive living and working on the streets, and who have experienced significant violence in their lives.

Recently, the Young Women’s Freedom Center was selected as a grantee partner of Liberty Hill’s Liberation Fund iniative—a new grant program that supports the work of community-based organizations as they work to end incarcaration of girls and gender-expansive youth, co-creating strategies for the population’s advancement, leadership development, and power-building.

We applaud their continued commitment to ensure that all young women and trans youth of all genders have the support they need to recognize and end all forms of oppression, to heal, and to live self-determined lives.
