No Drilling Where We're Living!

December 16, 2021

Thank you for helping Liberty Hill and our partners call attention to the urgent need to phase-out oil drilling in Los Angeles.

Now, we have a chance to amplify that message statewide by telling Governor Newsom and state leaders to adopt strong public health and safety rules.

Governor Gavin Newsom has instructed the state entity that regulates oil and gas, CalGEM (CA Geologic Energy Management Division) to establish rules to protest public health from impacts of oil and gas extraction and create setbacks, a huge step forward toward a future without toxic fossil fuels in our neighborhoods. They need to hear from you before the public comment period ends on December 21.

More than 2 million Californians live next to toxic pollution from oil drilling in their neighborhoods. Despite our reputation as an environmental leader, California is the only oil-producing state in the nation that allows oil and gas drilling next to homes, schools, and hospitals.

Millions of Californians are subject to asthma, cancer, reproductive disorders and neurological diseases as a direct result of oil drilling in their backyards. Whether in the densely populated Latinx and African-American neighborhoods of South Los Angeles, or the farmworker communities of Kern County, it is time for this toxic legacy to stop!

We know that Big Oil is already organizing to oppose the rule. That's why we need your voice to start a phaseout of oil and gas drilling near our homes to protect the health of ALL Californians.

Sign the petition to tell Governor Newsom to adopt the strongest possible statewide regulations.
