Why Collaborate with Liberty Hill?
Bespoke and Personalized Service
Would your client prefer to have one of a thousand generic DAFs at a large community foundation, or to be among the select group of progressive peers receiving personalized DAF services and custom philanthropic advising from Liberty Hill’s Impact Team?
Deep Community Roots
With nearly five decades of experience, Liberty Hill has cultivated strong relationships with local organizations championing racial, economic, environmental, LGBTQ+, and gender justice and democracy. Our insights ensure your clients' contributions make a tangible difference.
Fees Go Further
Fees at a corporate DAF provider provide no further social benefit. At Liberty Hill, the low administrative fees are reinvested into our Agenda for a Just Future: seeking a roof over every head, ending youth incarceration as we know it and eliminating toxic neighborhood oil drilling.
Impact Investing
100% of our DAFs are invested using Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles to align with our values This ensures impact by the total DAF funds under management, even those prior to being distributed as charitable grants. You and your client have a range of funds available to select from, the performance actively managed by Amalgamated Investment Services.
Flexible Giving Solutions
From Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) to philanthropic advising, donor briefings, collaborative funds and giving circles, we offer a range of options to suit diverse philanthropic strategies and financial situations.

Giving Circles and Collaborative Funds
For clients interested in collaborative philanthropy, our giving circles offer a communal approach to funding, aggregating into larger grants, fostering collective impact and providing donors with learning and community building opportunities. See the Giving Circles at Liberty Hill, and the Liberation Fund, a collaborative fund for the decarceration of girls and gender expansive youth launched in 2023.
Philanthropic Advising
Our team provides personalized advice to align your clients' charitable activities with their passions and an equity lens, ensuring their giving is both strategic and meaningful. We complement your advisory services, offering philanthropic guidance without superseding your client relationships. Our goal is to enhance the value you provide by aligning charitable strategies with your clients' values.
Donor Briefings, Resources, and Events
Liberty Hill convenes a slate of timely and issue-focused events each year for DAF holders, giving circle members, and our wider donor community. These events are both in-person and online. Our Impact Team offers tools and templates for creating a progressive giving plan, publishes a quarterly DAF Digest, and releases dockets of rapid-response recommendations, such as post-election or immediately after the L.A wildfires.
Why a Donor Advised Fund for Your Clients?
Opening a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) has a significant number of benefits for your client, advantageous in many ways over launching a private foundation.
- Low Threshold: A DAF at Liberty Hill can be established with just a $5k minimum contribution and filling out a simple online form. No legal fees, IRS registration, annual filings, or Board meetings needed—ever.
- No Capital Gains Tax: Your clients can donate appreciated stock held for more than 1 year and the contribution into the DAF will not be subject to capital gains tax.
- Immediate Tax Deduction: With a DAF, your client will get an immediate tax deduction for their contributions into the fund in the year they make the contribution, rather than waiting for the money to be distributed to charity.
- Deduction Limits: The deduction limit is based on the client’s adjusted gross income (AGI). For cash contributions, the deduction limit is up to 60% of their AGI, while for appreciated assets like stocks, mutual funds, and bonds, the limit is 30% of their AGI. Any unused deductions can be carried forward for up to five years.
- Anonymity: Your client may recommend grants from the DAF without disclosing their name or the fund’s name, if they prefer. Liberty Hill’s annual IRS filing also shields DAFs from being individually identified in relationship to the organizations funded by the DAF.
- Next Generation: Many families eventually want to get their kids involved in their philanthropy. Some will set up an additional DAF to get their next generation started on philanthropic giving. Others take advantage of support, education, and advising from Liberty Hill’s Impact Team, such as our workshops and tools for creating a progressive giving plan. Each DAF account creator may designate a successor advisor to continue the grantmaking after the original donor is gone.
