Liberation Fund Convening

As the work to end the incarceration of girls and gender expansive youth in L.A. County is underway, Liberation Fund grantee partners are hard at work laying the framework for a comprehensive strategy led by, and for, the youth themselves. This past month, Liberty Hill hosted its latest Liberation Fund Convening—providing safe and collaborative space that fosters deep trust, relationship building, and strategy development that aims to intervene throughout the life course of a young person who has been trapped in avoidable and harmful system involvement. In the months ahead, Liberation Fund grantee partners will meet monthly to consolidate and share their expertise as they work towards developing a “Strategy to Win” and blueprint to provide girls and gender expansive youth pathways to community safety, housing, education, health, and wellness.

LA Chargers Youth Training Camp Partnership

This past summer, Liberty Hill’s Youth Justice Team partnered with the Los Angeles Chargers NFL team to recruit system-impacted youth, ages 18-25, for an opportunity to participate in the LA Chargers Youth Training Camp fellowship. Six amazing transitional-aged youth from diverse backgrounds were selected for this opportunity, representing Liberty Hill partner organizations—Young Women’s Freedom Center, Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC), and Bridge Builders Foundation. Through the paid fellowship, youth gained experience working for the NFL team through their “Chargers 101” program and participated in a five-part career development learning series where they had the opportunity to meet with various Chargers staff members, learn about their responsibilities, and hear stories about their career pathways.
