This month, Liberty Hill joined Grand Performances for an inspiring evening as it hosted a community night of free live poetry centering the voices and stories of women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals in the important fight for Gender Justice!

The special Friday night poetry event sponsored by Liberty Hill, was inspired by the incredible Bengali Muslim feminist Begum Rokeya and her 1905 story, Sultana’s Dream. Curated by the talented Tanzila “Taz” Ahmed, the evening showcased artists who dare to imagine a future where women not only survive but truly thrive.

The summer night was filled with inspiring performances by nationally renowned poets, published authors, and writers, including Tanzila “Taz” Ahmed, Neelanjana Banerjee, Randa Jarra, Saba Waheed, D’Lo, Nazia Islam, Fariha Róisín, and many more!

Founded in 1986, Grand Performances has been the longest-running presenter of free outdoor concerts, poetry, theater and dance in downtown Los Angeles. Their mission is to inspire community, celebrate diversity, and unite Angelenos through free access to global performing arts.
