The Liberty Hill Community came out in full force at our 41st Annual Upton Sinclair Celebration to celebrate frontline organizers, community leaders, and donor activists who contribute to the progressive victories that power social change in Los Angeles!

Over the past year, the Liberty Hill community has helped create lasting change and progress that has impacted the lives of community members throughout Los Angeles. From fighting for a roof over every head, to working to end youth incarceration as we know it, and eliminating toxic neighborhood oil drilling, our work has reached communities in every corner of L.A.

Throughout U.S. history African American activists have charted new courses in the fight for civil rights and social justice, displaying courage through perseverance. During Black History Month, the Liberty Hill community celebrated the excellence and achievements of the African American community and recognized the Movement Makers in Black History that have made in impact on Liberty Hill and changed our nation forever!

Liberty Hill is pleased to announce Dominique Tan as the newest member of our Board of Directors! Dominique first joined the Liberty Hill community through way of our Environment + Justice Donor Circle where she currently serves as the giving circle’s Co-Chair.

At our recent 2023 Leadership Appreciation Brunch, Liberty Hill Donor Activists gathered to learn about community-led solutions aimed at ending the involvement of girls and gender-expansive youth in the incarceration system and gained insight into the local efforts of Liberty Hill grantee partners through our newly launched Liberation Fund.

Liberty Hill is excited to announce Jon Christensen as the newly elected Co-Chair of our Board of Directors! In his new position, Jon will help co-lead and support the Board in providing oversight, strategic guidance, and ensuring the Foundation’s long-term success. We look forward to his leadership and continued support of Liberty Hill’s vision and mission.

The NextGen Giving Circle hosted its last learning session of the year– From Access to Self-Determination: A Conversation on Reproductive Justice– this past month! The session welcomed NextGen giving circle members to an engaging discussion with leaders on the forefront of reproductive justice in Los Angeles.

This summer, the Liberty Hill Community came together to celebrate and bid farewell to long-time Liberty Hill staff member, visionary, and Environmental Justice champion—Michele Prichard.

Throughout her 34 years at Liberty Hill, Michele Prichard has held a variety of roles, including leading the Foundation as its Executive Director for several years and currently serving as Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives for our Environmental Health & Justice program.
